BCCI, you project image of India
With eminent persons like Vinod Rai and Ramachandra Guha at
the helm, one hoped that the BCCI would make a clean break from the Sreenivasan
days and begin to conduct itself with dignity and decorum, while upholding
highest ethical standards. But alas, these hopes have been completely
belied, going by the disgraceful snub received at the ICC meeting which saw the
BCCI totally isolated. The big-3 cartel Sreenivasan schemed to corner a lion’s
share of the financial kitty was a wrong and unethical arrangement. The current
ICC leadership was right in dismantling this discriminatory setup and move to a
more fair and equitable distribution of revenues. It was regretful that the new
BCCI leadership, instead of supporting this welcome move, tried to scuttle it,
much like the way Sreenivasan operated, only to cut a sorry figure in front of
the cricketing world. Strength is not flexing muscles to enrich oneself through
blackmail, but being gracious and conducting oneself fairly and justly.
Please, we expect the CoA not to behave like third rate businessmen. Let
us not be led into believing that India’s interests mean cornering as much
money as possible. That is not what BCCI is meant for – it has to behave
like a leader that inspires respect and confidence of peers. It is India’s
image at stake. Hope BCCI will turn a new leaf and project India as a
responsible, gracious leader.
